I finally managed to get a good quality photo of this! This is the drawing that earned me 1st place at the Congressional Art Competition! It will be displayed in Washington D.C for a year, starting this summer. I'm so proud
It seems like a mundane piece, but I do have a story behind it! My family and I were in a very tight spot last year. One day we were fine and the next we were being forced to live with my Grandmother. I was literally crammed with 8 people in her small house and we lived there for 2 months. During this time, I was a senior in high school. The board of education discovered that I lived in a town that didn't correspond to the district, so they tried their best to have me kicked out. (Unsuccessfully) I was very depressed. It was during this time that I was assigned a still life art project by my teacher. I literally poured my stress into this piece, perfecting it in a way that I could not perfect my life. I think maybe that's why I've been so successful with this piece.
But whatever the case, my family is better now. We live comfortably in a new home. I've graduated high school and plan to attend SCAD in Atlanta soon.
